- Do be sure to check out any shelter/rescue yourself to be sure their goals and practices are compatible with your beliefs.
- It’s not rude to ask for references, information about their policies, if they are a “kill” shelter, etc.
- Not all shelters/rescues are non-profits. To verify non-profit status (such as to ensure tax-deductibilty of donations) search for the organization on Guidestar.org or visit the IRS list of Nonprofits (List 78)
